Summer Landscape Project
These were some of my initial sketches for a project I started in Summer, which is redesigning the gardens of a converted farmhouse just outside of Cardiff. The above image was my idea for the old stables, which have been knocked down and only the concrete bases are left (on a slope). The materials are all recycled from the stables and will create a cosy, modern space for the family to enjoy. There will be minimal planting - a few cordyline - to transition the platforms to the rugged, overgrown space around them. The owners were very keen on this design.

This basic planting plan is from a different area of the same project, and is the lawn which lines the driveway to the property. Currently, it is almost all heavy clay mud, with a few unhealthy hydrangea clinging on for dear life.
The owners wanted a fully planted space, and were keen on hydrangea and fuchsia, which was a bit of a challenge as I find these plants to be a bit old-fashioned and haven't really designed with them much before. The owners also insisted the garden be pink and white, and were not very open to the concept of complimentary colours. I developed this plan before learning a few interesting lessons in not always giving the client exactly what they want. I plan to redevelop this plan to be much stronger in terms of structure and aesthetic, before works and planting begin in the Spring.
