Castlemeads inspiration
I'm considering using the industrial nature of Gloucester docks as inspiration for my design of the nearby Castlemeads, as the site has much historical significance of factories and production which contributed to the city's growth since the 1800s. Instead of just using palettes from the site and docks themselves, I wanted to incorporate material palettes which display the transition from the industrialisation periods to modern design. This should be symbolic of the purpose of many new technologies of the period, which were aimed at connecting many distant areas for easy import and export.

I think the curved brickwork around the arch is such an attractive feature as it shows attention to detail and craftsmanship. The shape it forms fits nicely with an old railway aesthetic and heavily impacts the feeling within the building by rejecting modernity.

The form of the glass around the stonework is such an intricate detail but it is an enticing way of transforming from the period features to the modern vibe.

The grass between the tram tracks reminded me of the striking images of abandoned train tracks which have been reclaimed by plants. I think they are a powerful message for how the earth should take back its space after human intervention.

Not entirely sure what these structures are- perhaps providing support to the bridge? I think the uniformity of the layout reflects the feeling of many industrial buildings and features, which could look striking when placed around planting which has a loser form.
