Model Making - Alney Island

Creating an abstract mosaic of Alney Island in Gloucester.
We felt it was very important to have the water as a big presence within the piece so we wove it in a free-flowing form throughout the centre. The lighter colours laid out in a coil shape represent the existing water management schemes present and how these contribute to the character and nature of the area.
We used different textures of paper with rough torn edges to symbolise the farm land and naturalistic aspect of the space. This is only interrupted by one instance of built form which is the old power station. This provides a reminder of how developing the land could interrupt the untouched scenic beauty. The other side of the river symbolises the rest of Gloucester and the density of built form, as well as how the city's energy influences its surroundings.
