Alney Island digital collage

 

This is a digital collage based on our design projects site - Alney Island in Gloucester. I haven't seen the site in person yet, so this is a preliminary idea based on my research and my memory of the one time I've visited the city. 

I started with a base layer of a marshy field, as the site as a whole seems undeveloped and very guided by water (it floods yearly). On to this I built layers of natural vegetation to give the untouched appearance of a mostly greenfield space. 

Following this, I built layers of Gloucester's different types of buildings. I wanted to capture the positives and negatives of the city, including iconic architecture like the cathedral, and a realistic sense of life in the area. I wanted these to have the impression of being an afterthought, as whilst they certainly have their own character, my impression of the site right now is that it has its own identity unique of its surroundings.
