Shute House
The design plan of
Shute House strikes me as random and difficult to follow – it seems some of the
empty spaces are random in place, shape and reason. However, if the vegetation
was pre-existing, perhaps the layout was designed around what was already
there.
What looks like the driveway to the house seems like an
enticing entry, although if it were an impressive house surely it should be
part of the entry view. Images from the actual site show a range of water
features and give the impression that the space has a classic English National
Trust property feel to it, so perhaps the garden looks a lot better from ground
level. The gardens do seem to allow a good view of some nearby hills, so at the
very least the view has been framed well.
